KIOM held the 2022 Korea-China International Forum on Traditional Medicine via online

- KIOM and CACMS shared newest trends in acupuncture research and sought joint research possibilities

 


The Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM / President: Lee Jin-Yong) announced that it held the 2022 Korea-China International Forum Traditional Medicine jointly with the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS / President: Hunag Luqi) from 2 p.m. on November 22.

In the symposium being held for the 12th time this year, researchers from the two institutions engaged in presentations and discussions on the newest trends in acupuncture research and search for joint research possibilities in the future.

The symposium was held based on the video conferencing format linking Korea and China via online.

At the symposium, opening remarks and congratulatory messages were given by the presidents and leading officials of the two institutions, followed by the presentation titled, “Direction for Convergence Research on Acupuncture and ICT,” by Acting Director Moon Jinseok at the R&D Strategy Division of KIOM.

The first session of the symposium included presentations on current research projects and recent research outcomes by the two institutions with a focus on the newest trends in acupuncture research.

Senior Researcher Choi Yujin at the KM Science Research Division of KIOM presented under the title of “Acupuncture for Patients with Insomnia and Predictors of Treatment Response: A Chart Review,” drawing the attention of participants by describing the effects of acupuncture therapy in improving insomnia and the findings on the characteristics of insomnia patients who respond well to acupuncture.

After that, Dr. Xu Huanfang at the Acupuncture Institute of CACMS presented under the title of “Acupuncture for Premature Ovarian Insufficiency: A Registry Study” and Technical Researcher Seo Su Yeon of KIOM presented under the title of “Possibility of Alleviating Emotional Diseases by Controlling Brain-derived Neuro Growth Factors of Acupuncture Stimulation.”

In the second session, presentations and discussions were made to search for joint research items between the two institutions.

Principal Researcher Choi Sun-mi at the KM Data Division at KIOM delivered “CDM development cooperation research proposal for RWE research for acupuncture treatment in Korea and China.”

Then, Deputy Researcher Xu Ruodan at the Institute of Basic Theory for Chinese Medicine of CACMS presented under the title of “Development and Application of Electrospinning in Nano-TCM” and Post-doctoral Researcher Jun Purumae of KIOM presented under the title of “Analysis on the Current Status of Thread Embedding Therapy in Korea-China and Future Challenges.”

Finally, Assistant Researcher Wang Hao at the Institute of Basic Research in Clinical Medicine of CACMS presented under the title of “A Comparative Study of the Five Patterns of TCM and the Sasang Medicine of Korean Medicine” and suggested joint research on the subject.

Panel discussions were held after presentations in each session to seek possibilities for research collaboration between the two institutions and share opinions on the role of traditional medicine and direction of its future development for the promotion of health of people around the world.

President Lee Jin-Yong of KIOM said, “This year is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and China, thus the 2022 symposium is more significant than ever before. I hope that presentations and discussions taking place at this symposium will not only lead to successful research collaboration between the two institutes but also contribute to the promotion of healthcare and quality of living for humanity.”

KIOM renewed its mutual research exchange and cooperation agreement with CACMS in 2016 and is organizing a joint symposium each year to share their newest research outcomes.
